See where your risks concentrate by likelihood and impact, drill into a cell, and compare inherent with residual positions.

Open the dashboard

Product location: /rms. Open Risk (RMS); the dashboard is the first page.

Open Risk (RMS). The dashboard, Risk Management, summarises the whole register: headline figures, the risk heatmap, the score trend, top risks, overdue actions, recent activity and observations that need attention.

When more than one scoring methodology is active, choose one in Methodology. The heatmap and the score trend follow that methodology, because factors and scales differ between methodologies. The other tiles cover all active risks.

If Risk Management has not been set up yet, the dashboard asks you to Set up methodologies first. Until a methodology is active, risks cannot be scored and the figures stay empty. See the setup wizard.

Read the headline figures

Product location: /rms. Open Risk (RMS); the dashboard is the first page.

The top row gives four figures:

Figure

What it counts

Active risks

Active risks in the register, and how many were closed this week.

Critical + High

Active risks whose inherent level is Critical or High, split by level.

Overdue actions

Mitigating actions past their target date and not yet implemented, out of all open actions, and how many became overdue this week.

Risks mitigated

Risks that received a residual score in the last 30 days, and how many active risks still await residual scoring. Recording a residual score is the signal counted here; it does not by itself show that the score went down.

Risk-level distribution shows how many active risks fall in each inherent level, using the default methodology's thresholds, and which modules created them. Choose Open register to see the risks behind the bars.

Use the risk heatmap

Product location: /rms. Find the Risk heatmap tile and select a cell that contains risks.

The Risk heatmap plots risks by the methodology's first two scoring factors, for example Likelihood × Impact. Each axis runs across the factor's full scale. For a three-factor methodology, such as severity, occurrence and detection, the heatmap uses the first two factors.

  • Counts: the number in a cell is how many risks have exactly that combination of inherent factor scores. Hover over a cell to see its coordinates and count.

  • Colour: a cell containing risks takes the colour of their risk level from the methodology's thresholds. Empty cells are lightly tinted with the level that combination would have, so you can read where the High and Critical zones lie even before risks land there.

  • Legend: Low, Medium, High and Critical follow your methodology's threshold names and colours.

  • Scope: the heatmap uses inherent scores and includes Draft, Active and Pending Review risks. Obsolete and deleted risks are left out.

Select a cell that contains risks to open Risks at …, for example “Risks at Likelihood=4, Impact=5”. The dialog lists the risks at that score combination. Choose a risk to open it, or Close to return.

Use the heatmap to direct attention rather than to decide by itself. A crowded Critical cell tells you where to start the review. The risk record tells you why each risk is there and what is being done about it.

Follow trends and priorities

Product location: /rms. Open Risk (RMS); the dashboard is the first page.

  • Aggregate score trend shows the weekly mean inherent and residual score of all active risks over the last 12 weeks. Dashed lines mark the methodology's level thresholds. A widening gap between the lines means controls and treatment are reducing risk. When the lines converge, residual scores are not keeping pace.

  • Top 10 by inherent score lists the risks with the highest inherent scores. High and Critical risks carry an Escalated badge. Choose a risk to open it.

  • Risks by category shows the categories with the most active risks.

  • Overdue mitigating actions lists actions past their target date. Choosing one opens its risk with the action highlighted.

  • Recent activity shows risks created, set obsolete, reactivated or deleted in the last 72 hours.

For a longer view of the score trend, open Risk Trends under Analysis. Choose a Period of the last 4, 12, 26 or 52 weeks; the page opens on 12. When more than one methodology is active, choose the Methodology as well. The chart shows how the inherent and residual scores have moved against that methodology's thresholds.

AI insights are calculated from your register against its methodology; they are not generated text. Overdue risk reviews appears when risks are past their review date. It becomes high priority at five or more. High risk concentration appears when a large share of risks, 40% by default, sits in the top level. Treatments increased risk flags active risks whose residual score exceeds their inherent score. Choose an insight to open the register. Overdue risk reviews opens it already filtered to overdue reviews.

Compare inherent and residual positions in the Risk Matrix

Product location: /rms/matrix. Choose Methodology and Score Type, then select a cell.

Open Risk Matrix under Analysis for a larger, adjustable view of the same grid.

  1. Choose the Methodology.

  2. Choose Score Type: Inherent for exposure before controls, or Residual for the position after the controls that operate today.

  3. Optionally, use Filter by to limit the matrix to risks with a particular custom-field value, and Pick a value….

  4. Select a cell to show Risks at intersection, with its level, score and risk count, and open each risk from the list.

Switch between Inherent and Residual to see how far controls move risks towards the low-risk corner. A risk missing from the residual matrix has no residual score yet. Score it on the risk's Treatment tab; see treatment and review.

Interpret what the grid does and does not show

Product location: /rms/matrix

  • An empty cell means no risk currently has that combination. It does not mean the combination is safe to ignore.

  • A risk without inherent factor scores does not appear. Draft risks appear once their factors are scored.

  • Positions are only comparable within one methodology. Two methodologies can use different scales and thresholds even when their factor names match.

  • The grid reflects recorded scores. Whether the controls behind a residual score actually work is shown under controls and residual challenges.

  • To express exposure in money rather than scores, use portfolio and appetite.
